Volunteering with LANDED gives you an opportunity to make a difference to people’s lives and also give something back to your community. Volunteering with us can also help you to meet new people, make friends, improve your confidence, gain support, learn new skills and try new things.
LANDED volunteers meet on a weekly basis, and our training sessions are designed to increase your knowledge and understanding of drugs, alcohol, sexual health and tobacco issues. Our weekly sessions are fun and relaxed, and we use a range of activities to help you understand the risks and effects of these different issues whilst exploring your own attitudes. You don’t have to have any prior knowledge, just a willingness to learn and take part. We also ask our volunteers to make themselves available for 1 day training courses. They only happen a few times a year, always take place at the weekend, and are a great way of covering a lot of information in a short space of time. It also allows us to use our weekly sessions to support our volunteers with any issues they may have.
We will also talk to you about peer education, challenging attitudes, your rights, how to deal with difficult situations and a whole lot more. Don’t worry we don’t expect you to deliver a workshop or anything until your ready! Only you will know when that is and until then we will continue to support you to increase your skills and confidence.
All our volunteers are encouraged to take part in Youth Achievement Award challenges which are nationally recognised awards and reward young people for their efforts in carrying out a range of activities. There are a range of challenges that you can take part in and staff will support to you to find challenges that are right for you. Our volunteers also participate in Saltire Awards which are designed to formally recognise the commitment and contribution of youth volunteering.
At LANDED our volunteers are never out of pocket as we reimburse you for your travel expenses and cover the cost of all outings and activities, so all you have to do is turn up, take part and have some fun!
