Mairi - Worker Wednesday

Worker Wednesday is a weekly LANDED blog, written by staff to introduce themselves. You can see the rest of the blogs here.

Hi, my name is Mairi and I am the Youth Support Officer at LANDED.

I first began working at LANDED over ten years ago, where I was employed as an admin officer whilst completing an HNC in business and information technology at college.

I had never worked in a youth work setting before and quickly discovered I really enjoyed working with the young people. I was promoted to my current role in 2012. Part of my job is to recruit the volunteers, meaning I am often the first point of contact for them.

I work every Wednesday night supporting the volunteers as they complete their topic training, which means I get to know each young person really well and develop a positive relationship with each of them.

I have recently completed studying a community education degree at uni, which has been great in helping me to understand the theories surrounding youth and community work.

The LANDED team is like a family, there is never a dull moment in the office and I thoroughly enjoy working with the young people; supporting them, encouraging them, and of course, having a laugh with them!

LANDED is a safe, happy place to be for young people and I encourage any young person I meet to get involved - you won't regret it!
