LANDED Peer Education Service is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to join our existing team. The post holder will be responsible for the development and delivery of a range of awareness-raising inputs that aim to increase young people’s knowledge and understanding of risky behaviours including drug, alcohol and sexual health issues.

Development Officer

Salary: £22,380 - £24,214

 

Term of Contract: This post is advertised as a 1 year fixed term post. Future employment will be dependent upon securing additional funding.

 

Job Summary: To design, develop and deliver a range of activities that raise awareness of risk-taking behaviours using a harm reduction approach, with the overall aim of enabling young people to take responsibility for their health and learning. This post will focus on risky behaviours including drug and alcohol use, and sexual health issues. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To develop, design and deliver training programmes for young people aimed at increasing their awareness of the risks and consequences of risk-taking behaviours.

  • To support volunteers to design and deliver peer-led workshops that increase awareness of risk-taking behaviours.

  • To respond to reactive requests from groups within the community for awareness-raising workshops.

  • To design, deliver and produce educational resources that support workshop delivery.

  • To establish effective working relationships with relevant forums, committees and key agencies to develop and promote peer education and awareness of the consequences of risk-taking behaviours among young people.

  • To provide effective support and training for staff (paid and unpaid) within a variety of settings, e.g. schools, youth work, training agencies as and when required.

  • To undertake monitoring and evaluation of programmes as required.

  • To keep up to date with current policy and practice in relation to youth health issues and peer education practice.

  • To develop and maintain project plans, files, records and reports.

  • To research local and national information to provide content for social media platforms.

  • To support and maintain a regular team of young people as volunteer peer educators.

  • To be responsible for the organisation and delivery of own workload within defined parameters and objectives.

  • Participate in staff meetings, events and activities.

  • To identify future development opportunities.

  • To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as identified through the development of the service.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • The successful candidate must be educated to degree level and hold a BA Degree in Community Education, Social Work, Health, Education or equivalent discipline

  • The successful candidate must hold a full clean driving licence and have full access to a car as there is a requirement to be fully mobile throughout Lanarkshire with the ability to transport volunteers and equipment as required
